The DOA Guy

I have gotten calls, emails and texts reacting to the fact that Carl Jackson pulled HB 1335. If you get a response or a call back they are probably coming from Carl Jackson’s staff member Brian. You might remember him, he is the DOA guy. For those who don’t I am posting a copy of the exchange between him and I. I have heard he is now trying to twist the story and say that it was not pulled and that I have misinformed our members. Bull crap. I have kept everyone informed every step of the way, hoping and fighting to get this thing out of Rules committee because it was submitted late. Well they tried that with Liz Schultz and she pushed back getting Brian to admit that Del Jackson pulled the bill. I guess after Liz called him out he began changing his story. Now he is saying that he wanted to pull it so if it went to hearing it wouldn’t be voted down. Well he didn’t say that to me. In fact, he didn’t tell me it was submitted late - I found out from Delegate Szlega. He didn’t tell me that it is the sponsors responsibility to fight to get it out of committee - I found that out from Del Talmadge Branch. Brian thought we should be happy that Del Jackson submitted the bill at all. Can’t keep his story straight now that he is being called to the carpet. So, if you are calling Del Jackson’s office and speak with Brian please remember he is the DOA guy and was never in our corner.

WE HAVE TWO YEARS! LET’S GET THEM OUT!

I received this from Delegate Carl Jackson’s office. (The Staffer hit Reply instead of forward). I am bringing this to your attention since the Maryland General Assembly is decidedly against revisiting the Grandfather Bill. Well we have two years to try to get them out. We need to remove the lawmakers who do not want to honor Maryland’s commitment to its retirees. Namely us keeping our prescription drug coverage and not reducing the employer portion of their pension. Anyone interested? This is the email from him below and my response.

This was actually only sent to Delegate Dan Cox (I am guessing they bcc’d other legislators? – see below, nobody else is listed).

United We Matter is the group that wants all the retiree health care benefits reinstated – any bill like this is DOA, the compromise bill was passed a few years back. Wasn’t sure if you wanted to respond since the email wasn’t actually sent to you. I can also tell them that you support them still if you’d like also – this is the group that you testified with on the retiree bill last year.

Really! Does DOA mean what I think it means? I'm in your district and you must have forgotten that no one voted you in. I will do all I can to make you regret not fighting for senior citizens who worked for the State of Maryland.
